Ok, I’m sure you’ve read or heard the hype about a little yellow cake with a cream center that disappeared eight months ago. At the time I was living in Maui and could not believe the news as the remaining stock filled the aisle of Wal-Mart. The flagship bakery in Emporia, Kansas laid off 500 people and closed the door to the famous snack cake, Twinkies.
Life wasn’t the same without our HoHo’s, Ding Dong’s and other Hostess treats. Never has one dessert caused such an uproar in so many people’s lives. They took a national treasure from us, never to be seen again!
Miracles of miracles, the rebirth of Twinkie emerged. On 7/15/13 The yellow delight arrived in stores and caused joy, unspeakable joy for so many. Today, outdoor billboards in Kansas, unveiled giant Twinkies causing people to lose their minds.
Of course there have been changes. Twinkie is 10% smaller and individually wrapped. It now carries a shelf life of 45 days. Three hundred jobs were restored, 20-25%. Unfortunately 600 outlet stores will remain closed. With 135 calories than the original, you can gorge to your heart’s content. (The package states a serving size of two cakes equals 270 calories)
So here’s to the sweet treat that as the statement says is, “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever”
